MobilePack Event

3rd Annual Food 4others MobilePack: May 10-11, 2013

On Friday & Saturday, May 10-11, we conducted Silicon Valley's 3rd Food 4others MobilePack, in partnership with the nonprofit Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). This two-day effort brought together nearly 1,200 local volunteers to hand-pack nutritious meals for severely malnourished children in the developing world. Working together, these enthusiastic volunteers packed 264,384 meals, far exceeding this year's goal of 250,000! Within hours of the event, all the meals had been fully funded, thanks to the generous donations of our volunteers and partners, who contributed over $60,000.00. The meals will soon be shipped to international partners serving hungry children in The Philippines. The shipment will provide enough meals to feed 724 children for an entire year!

The impact of this food is truly amazing! Omar, from El Salvador, weighed only 19 pounds at 8 years old. On the brink of death, Omar was provided with FMSC's all-vegetarian MannaPack Rice meals, developed by food scientists to quickly reverse and prevent malnutrition. 6 months and only $40 later, Omar weighed a healthy 73 pounds! Each year, this event has grown as more volunteers -- from families, churches, businesses, schools, and civic groups -- join in the effort to raise funds (covering the cost of meals) and to hand-pack meals to make a difference. Working as teams in two-hour shifts, volunteers fill and seal bags of food, enjoying a fun atmosphere and the satisfaction of making a measurable impact on hunger.
