Spring of Hope Mission Trip

October 2016

Our mission team is heading to Ambo, Ethiopia, to spend an exciting seven days with the Spring of Hope children and families this October! The primary objective is simply to build stronger relationships with the CarePoint community. We also want to bless their lives in meaningful and practical ways. So we'll be delivering gifts and supplies that will encourage and help the families in their everyday lives. These gifts will include:

  • Solar powered inflatable lanterns (Luci Lights) for each child's home.
  • Indestructible soccer balls (from One World Futbol) for the CarePoint's soccer teams and schools.
  • A CarePoint Feast and Carnival Day for all the children to have a fun day of fellowship together.
  • Care Packages from the children's sponsors and friends, filled with fun and practical gifts for each child.
  • Business investments for the families' Self-Help Groups to help them succeed in their new businesses this upcoming year.
  • If you would like to support the Spring of Hope Mission Trip to help provide these life-enhancing gifts and supplies for the families, please clink this link: DONATE NOW.

You can choose to give a general donation, which we'll apply to the area of the most need. Or you can select one of the specific projects above. THANK YOU!

    Care Packages

A bundle of gifts for each child

When the mission team visits the CarePoint this October, they hope to deliver a Care Package filled with fun and practical gifts for each child. Sponsors can create a personalized gift for their sponsor child, and volunteers can create a package for an unsponsored child so no one feels forgotten. Just click here for simple instructions on how to create a Care Package!

Help us encourage an unsponsored child: Donate $40 to fund a Care Package for a child who's still waiting to be sponsored, and we'll do the shopping for you. Thank you!

    Give Empowerment

    Invest in the Self-Help Groups

You can empower the parents and guardians of the Spring of Hope children by investing in their new businesses. Each group of guardians is currently working toward launching their new businesses. Each business model is unique, based on the skills and experiences of the group members (grain trading, milk production, opening a cafe, etc). Each business model requires a sufficient amount of capital to launch, so an investment from you would allow these guardians to take the next step toward self-reliance!

    Unsponsored Children's Fund

    Giving Hope While They Wait

Every child hopes and prays for a sponsor who will love and support them. For some, their prayers have been answered! For others, they still wait. Maybe you can't commit to a long-term relationship with a child today, but you still want to help. Good news: you can!

When you donate to our Unsponsored Children's Fund, you help provide for the needs of an unsponsored child. Because of your gift, they can still attend school, receive food and clothing, and have access to medical care while they wait for a sponsor.

A donation of $38 will give a child one month of full sponsorship support while they wait for a long-term supporter. $76 will bring hope into a child's life for two months. Whatever amount you are able to give will be a huge encouragement for an unsponsored child! DONATE to the UNSPONSORED CHILDREN'S FUND.

    Emergency Medical Fund

Child sponsorship provides basic medical care for every child. This includes regular check-ups and access to common medications as needed. Additionally, a percentage of every sponsorship dollar is allocated for an emergency medical fund shared by all the children. A single serious injury such as a broken arm could deplete this fund. Help us be more prepared for emergency medical situations, such as broken bones and severe illnesses. Donate to our Emergency Medical Fund today.

Success Story: Donations to our Emergency Medical Fund allowed 6-year old Kume to receive proper care at the Addis Ababa hospital for her broken arm. The doctor was able to take X-rays, reset her arm, and wrap her arm in a cast and sling while she recovered. Without this proper treatment, the doctor confirmed that Kume would've been permanently disabled. After 6 weeks, Kume's cast was taken off and her arm was completely healed!

    Spring of Hope Water Project

Clean Water = Health & Hope

4others is currently raising funds to bring clean water to the Gosu Kora Primary School and the surrounding Mengedo sub-locality in rural Ambo town, a community located in the West Shewa Zone of Ethiopia. The total cost of the project will be $62,000.00.

The Spring of Hope Water Project will include a 2.2 kilometer extension of the current municipal water distribution pipeline into two areas that have never had access to clean water. The extension of this pipeline and the addition of two water access points are expected to directly benefit more than 1,550 individuals, especially women and children who currently travel long distances to collect water from unsanitary sources.

    A CarePoint Feast!

    Fundraising Goal: $1,250.00

Twice a year, we would love to provide a delicious, nutritious feast for all the children at Spring of Hope. As a treat, this meal will include lamb meat -- a source of protein they can rarely afford.

On average, a feast for 150 children usually totals around $1,250.00 according to local market prices. If you'd like to bless the children with a Christmas feast in January (Christmas in Ethiopia is celebrated on January 7th) or with a Celebration feast in August (right before starting a new school year), click here to DONATE to a CAREPOINT FEAST.

    COMPLETED May 2014: Vehicle Fund

for Children's HopeChest Ethiopia Field Staff

While in Ethiopia, we saw firsthand the dedication and hard work of HopeChest's Ethiopia field staff. They carry heavy burdens for the children we advocate for every day. For many years, one of the factors that contributed to their heavy load was having to spend a significant amount of time navigating through public transportation when their time would've been much more effectively invested with the kids and ministering to more CarePoints. In addition, over the course of the year, travel expenses added up and became a hefty expense. That's why in August 2013, 4others contributed the first $5,000 to seed an Ethiopia Vehicle Fund.

Today, we're excited to share that with the donations of other generous individuals and communities across the states, the CHC staff was able to purchase their first transportation vehicle!

Now with their own van, the staff will be able to travel more efficiently and quickly. The children at our CarePoint will benefit, too! Staff will be able to transport the kids when necessary (even helping with emergency hospital trips) and also more quickly deliver supplies and sponsor letters to the CarePoint. The staff is very grateful for all the generous donors who helped contribute to the purchase of their new van! They're excited that they can now more efficiently aid in the discipleship process of all the CarePoints in Ethiopia, including expanding into new areas to establish more CarePoints!
