About the African Water Project:
Our objective is to inspire others to learn more about the need for accessible safe water in Africa and to raise funds to help provide safe water solutions. A rapidly growing network of local businesses, churches, schools, and individuals are collecting funds to sponsor the construction of new wells, as well as the rehabilitation and repair of existing wells. We are also working to provide water filtration and purification systems for individual families and communities. These projects have brought access to safe water and improved sanitation to thousands of people in Africa. All donations to African Water Project are used to fund safe water solutions administered by our carefully-screened partner organizations.

Nearly 1,000 children die each day due to a water-related illness. It costs us an average of $0.98 to provide clean, safe water to one person for one year. So, every dollar makes a difference!
Water is at the heart of a daily crisis faced by 663 million of the world’s most vulnerable people—a crisis that threatens life and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. Unlike war and terrorism, the global water crisis does not make media headlines, despite the fact that it claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns. Unlike natural disasters, it does not rally concerted international action, despite the fact that more people die each year from drinking dirty water than from the world’s hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes combined.
This is a silent crisis experienced by the poor, and tolerated by those with the resources, technology, and the political power to end it. Yet this is a crisis that is holding back human progress, consigning large segments of humanity to lives of poverty, vulnerability, and insecurity.
African Water Project (AWP) seeks to address this most basic of needs by helping deprived communities in Africa acquire safe, clean water. Our goal is to substantially ease the African water crisis, while addressing root causes such as injustice, oppression, and abject poverty. As this happens, communities and worldviews are transformed—both among those in desperate physical need, and among those who have been blessed with much.
African Water Project is raising awareness about the African water crisis, and facilitating cost-effective and impactful work that eradicates the problem in targeted regions of Africa. We work with carefully-screened implementing partners to launch and sustain water projects in impoverished rural areas and urban slum communities. By providing practical assistance to individuals and groups, and financial resources to our partners, we are helping thousands of people each year improve their health through safe drinking water. Without the support of African Water Project, and the generosity of our donors, many of these water projects would never come into being.
